Italian police yesterday arrested Gianpaolo Tarantini, a businessman under investigation for suspected corruption, dealing in narcotics and procuring prostitutes for politicians, including Silvio Berlusconi, prime minister.
A prosecutor said Mr Tarantini was arrested at Bari airport in connection with the drugs-related investigation and because of suspicion that he might flee or tamper with evidence. The other investigations continue.
Mr Berlusconi is not under investigation, prosecutors confirmed. The prime minister says Mr Tarantini introduced him to the women who attended his private parties, but that he never paid them for sex.
