Berlusconi no worse than predecessors

Sir, I live in Italy and do not vote for Silvio Berlusconi. Nevertheless, I cannot see any evidence (Letters, June 8) that Mr Berlusconi is “devastating Italy’s economy, legal system, social structure and democratic institutions” more than the centre-left and centre-right coalitions that preceded him in the past six decades. Mr Berlusconi simply enjoys making a fool of himself, an endeavour that has apparently paid off well at the recent European and local elections.
