Manufacturing output: Production at UK factories suffered a surprise fall in May of 0.5 per cent, a decline that confounded City hopes for a 0.2 per cent increase. Output is now 12.7 per cent down from a year ago. The broader gauge of industrial production, which includes the utilities and extractive industries, fell by 0.6 per cent in May, to stand 11.9 per cent lower than a year ago. The economy: The National Institute of Economic and Social Research said that the economy probably shrank by a further 0.4 per cent in the second quarter, in its fifth consecutive quarter of recession. It added that it believed the economy had been broadly flat during June. Consumer sentiment: Nationwide Building Society said that its headline index of consumer sentiment in its poll rose to 58 for June, from a May reading of 54. ********************************** Sky Italia: The broadcaster, owned by News Corporation, took the No 2 spot in Italian television revenues last year, above Mediaset, which is controlled by Silvio Berlusconi, the Italian Prime Minister. RAI, the state broadcaster, led with revenues of €2.72 billion (£2.35 billion), Sky Italia had revenues of €2.64 billion and Mediaset had €2.53 billion.
